Curriculum

Children’s joy and happiness is a big part of their learning. At Bumblebees Day Nursery, we encourage them to have fun as a part of their education. The curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) and all activities are adapted to match children's abilities and interests.

The Early Years Foundation Stages:

Communication and Language Development

Children are given the opportunity to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Physical Development

Children are encouraged to be active and to develop their coordination, control, and movement. We help them to understand the importance of physical activity, and to start making healthy choices in relation to food.

Personal, Social, and

Emotional Development

We help the children to develop a positive sense of themselves and others, and form positive relationships and respect for others. Activities are designed to help them develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings, to understand appropriate behaviour in groups, and to have confidence in their own abilities.

Literacy Development

Children learn to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Our Story Hut and reading areas give children access to a wide range of reading materials to ignite their interest.

Mathematics

Children are provided with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, and calculating simple addition and subtraction problems. We create fun activities which teach them to describe shapes and spaces, seeing numbers as a part of everyday life.

Understanding the World

Children are guided to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore and observe both inside and outside. They are encouraged to find out about people, places, technology, and the environment.

Expressive Arts and Design

Children explore a wide range of media and materials and are encouraged to share their

thoughts, ideas, and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance,

role-play, and design and technology.

Tapestry

Our online learning journal, Tapestry, is an interactive record of your child’s experiences whilst at nursery. Using photos, videos, and text entries, your child’s Key Person will provide updates about your child’s learning and development, recording their progress on the platform. As a parent, you will have full access to your child’s profile, meaning you can see their progress online, as well as upload your own comments and media to add to the record.

Tapestry allows for easy communication between staff and parents, creating a shared understanding of each child and how Bumblebees can support their growth. You will also be given a permanent record of your child’s unique journey through Tapestry, providing you with a place to store memories of your child’s early years and their early education experiences.
